ZirooPay was started to solve a problem that the founders have personally experienced: unreliable payment terminals at retail locations.

Omoniyi was traveling to Nigeria for a visit and had to take his mum to the hospital. After the consultation, he was shocked to realize that he could not pay the hospital bills using his MasterCard. In a major federal teaching hospital! After waiting in line at two ATMs before he could withdraw the cash he needed to pay.

That experience started him on the journey of investigating why digital payments adoption was so low in Nigeria despite the huge market opportunity. It turned out that the major blocker was the poor internet connection that caused over 50% of all card transactions initiated at merchant locations to fail in Nigeria.

This led us down the path of creating a unique, patented technology that allows us to process card payments in real-time without the internet, the only POS able to do that.
